What is the difference between Mention and Cite?

Mention as a verb is to speak of something. while Cite as a verb is to quote; to repeat, as a passage from a book, or the words of another.

Example sentence: Those who have heard me speak from time to time know that quite often I cite the observation of that great American author, Mark Twain, who said, history does not repeat itself, but it rhymes.
