When it comes to streaming platforms, Disney+ has become a household name for entertainment enthusiasts around the world. However, did you know that there are significant differences between the Indian version, known as Disney+ Hotstar, and the rest of the Disney+ experience available elsewhere?
Hotstar becoming Disney+ Hotstar
Almost a year after the Disney-Fox deal, the transition of Hotsrtar becoming Disney+ Hotstar took place on April 3, 2020. The Walt Disney Company's acquisition of Star India's parent company paved the way for the integration of Hotstar with the renowned global streaming service, Disney+. This merger brought together the best of both platforms, combining Hotstar's local content and sports offerings with the extensive library and beloved franchises of Disney, resulting in an enhanced streaming experience for viewers worldwide.
Difference between the Disney+ Hotstar and Disney+
Content: Disney+ Hotstar offers a diverse range of content, including regional Indian movies, TV shows, and live sports events, in addition to the vast collection of Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars content available on Disney+. However, Disney+ in the US primarily focuses on the international Disney catalog.
Regional Variations: Disney+ Hotstar caters to the Indian audience, incorporating regional language content from various Indian film industries like Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam etc. It is a preferred choice for users seeking local entertainment. In contrast, Disney+ in the US offers a more standardized catalog of content, primarily in English, with a focus on global Disney franchises.
Sports: One of the biggest differences is that Disney+ Hotstar provides live sports streaming of cricket and football matches and other sports events like IPL, EPL and F1. This live sports feature is exclusive to Disney+ Hotstar in India and is not available on Disney+ in the US.
Pricing:The pricing model and subscription rates of Disney+ Hotstar and the Disney+ are vastly different
User interface: The Disney+ Hotstar in India provides language options to choose from and tabs for various live sports events and Hotstar exclusives which are not present in the US or international version of Disney+.
These are the main differences between the two, there are also a lot of similarities between the two like Marvel, NAT geo and star wars content, Disney classics, UI, and the color scheme.
All in all both are good OTT platforms on their own and your choice of the platform to use merely depends on the location you are residing in.
