What is the difference between Suspect and Defendant?

Suspect as a noun is a person who is suspected of something, in particular of committing a crime. while Defendant as a noun is in civil proceedings, the party responding to the complaint; one who is sued and called upon to make satisfaction for a wrong complained of by another.
