A stage show made up of sketches etc. A survey of the available items or material. A periodical which makes a survey of the arts or some other field. A military inspection or display for the benefit of superiors or VIPs. A forensic inspection to assess compliance with regulations or some code.
Example sentence: Popularity makes no law invulnerable to invalidation. Americans accept judicial supervision of their democracy - judicial review of popular but possibly unconstitutional statutes - because they know that if the Constitution is truly to constitute the nation, it must trump some majority preferences.

Example sentence: A careful inspection showed them that, even if they succeeded in righting it by themselves, the cart would travel no longer. The axles were in a hopeless state, and the missing wheel was shattered into pieces.
