Interference

Definition: The act of interfering with something, or something that interferes. The illegal obstruction of an opponent in some ball games. An effect caused by the superposition of two systems of waves, such as a distortion on a broadcast signal due to atmospheric or other effects. In United States patent law, an inter partes proceeding to determine the priority issues of multiple patent applications; a priority contest.
Example sentence: Many markets work best with little or no outside interference. But others - especially those subject to big 'externalities' - need a helping hand.
Hindrance

Definition: Something which hinders; something which obstructs, holds back or causes problems.
Example sentence: When one is young, aspiring to play for the country, doing well, any hindrance, like injury or being out of form, can be frustrating and a cause of annoyance or even anger. But once you have a close encounter with death, you realise the real value of life.
