Contemptuous
Part of speech: adjective
Definition: showing contempt; expressing disdain; showing a lack of respect.
Example sentence: It's sort of admirable that America is big enough to put up with the contemptuous self-loathing. Americans are freer than anyone in the world to say and do whatever they like, but when freedom cluelessly turns against itself, it can become a liability.
Insulting
Part of speech: adjective
Definition: Containing insult, or having the intention of insulting.
Part of speech: verb
Definition: To be insensitive, insolent, or rude to (somebody); to affront or demean (someone).
Example sentence: Sometimes the poor are praised for being thrifty. But to recommend thrift to the poor is both grotesque and insulting. It is like advising a man who is starving to eat less.
