Definition: The act of asserting, or that which is asserted; positive declaration or averment; affirmation; statement asserted; position advanced. Maintenance; vindication; as, the assertion of one's rights or prerogatives. A statement in a program asserting a condition expected to be true at a particular point, used in debugging.
Example sentence: The language of the younger generation has the brutality of the city and an assertion of threatening power at hand, not to come. It is military, theatrical, and at its most coherent probably a lasting repudiation of empty courtesy and bureaucratic euphemism.
